How Vehicle Sales Tax Is Financed
In most US states, vehicle sales tax is calculated based on the net vehicle purchase price and can be paid upfront in cash or rolled directly into your total auto loan balance.
Trade-In Sales Tax Credit Rules
Over 42 states offer a Trade-In Sales Tax Credit. For example, if you buy a $30,000 vehicle and trade in a car worth $10,000, you only pay state sales tax on the net $20,000 difference ($30,000 - $10,000), saving hundreds of dollars at closing.
